First Day

TODAY IS FIRST DAY OF KINDY.

KINDY.

I'm having that ridiculously subtle kind of freakout where I'm all like "oh yes, I need to just get these things together and plan my day and that includes a twenty minute walk to OH GOD ALREADY to kindergarten and I'll drop her off AND THEN LEAVE WHAT THE SHIT and go and do some study and whatnot, grab a few things for dinner then come home AND PICK HER UP FROM LIKE FIVE HOURS WITHOUT ME OR BZOU WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?"

So yes. I'm flailing a bit.

HOW IS SHE OLD ENOUGH FOR KINDY? SHE WAS ONLY BORN, LIKE, LAST WEEK!

I know. It's crazy. We got there and she just went "Welp, bag in the locker, catchya laters Ma!" and ran off into the playground. And then when I got there she didn't flip out like a bunch of the other kids, she just waved and continued listening to the story (she did get annoyed with the teacher who told her to go outside to see if her mum was there - "But my mum is right there.) So far no freaking out but much more hand holding than usual and repeated questions about how I will keep walking her to kindy, right? - as I'll just boot her out the door now she knows the way.

I have no idea how to feel about it. I know the theory is that children with a secure attachment to their parents deal with separations like kindy/school better, but it's still weird.

When I started kindy, I was like, "Yep, this is all good, got my locker, got my play lunch. Why are you hanging around, Mum, I wanna get this thing started!" Some kids just can't wait to get their education started!
